Great news for those of you that don’t like queing Amsterdam Schiphol has just added six new self-service baggage drop-off units which doubles the total to twelve units.
What is a Self-service machine ? Well its tube like looking thing which allows passengers to do their own check in and deposit their baggage. What a shame no more smiling (or grumpy) checkin staff, oh well never mind it probably saves time and money so we can all get on doing more importanty things.
Ad Rutten, the head man at Schiphol airport owners the Schiphol Group was quoted as saying “These self-service baggage drop-off units improve the service we offer to passengers.
“The trend towards self-service is driven by passenger demand. We previously worked with KLM to develop the self-service transfer service, and self-service baggage drop off is a logical next step.”
As you all know Schiphol is a ground breaking airport always looking to adopt the latest technology in the service of you the user, thats why they were one of the first to deploy these groovy self service machines back in 2008, about a million have used the machines since then with positive feedback. This is Craig bagging you up with his Schiphol airport blog, remeber you heard it here first.
Looking back at 2011 the anyalsis for Schiphol airport is positive accross the board despite global uncertainty Amsterdam airport manages to buck almost all of the trends.
Passenger numbers have grown 10% to nearly 50 million with an expanded network of direct connections now totalling 313 which is an increase of 12
Schiphols relative competative position was also strengthened with a greater market share for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol which is now back in place as the fourth largest airport in Europe after London Heathrow, Charles de Gaule Paris and Frankfurt.
Travellers will be pleased to know that puctuality improved and 93% of passengers rated Schiphol as “good to excellent” This is Craig bringing you the good news for Schiphol airport hotels blog – nobody gets the news like we do for the airport.
